Livery Insurance

What it means to you.... The passenger

New York State Law requires that all vehicles that operate "for hire" such as Taxi's, Limousines...etc possess "Livery" insurance and registration.  Livery insurance allows you to carry passengers for a fee, it is typically 5 to 7 times more expensive than personal car insurance.  This brings into play the illegal operator, one that is NOT insured to carry passengers for hire.   They often do this because they can't afford to pay the premiums that go with running a legitimate livery service.  They put you & your family at risk every time you ride in their vehicles.  In the event of an accident you, your child or someone you know may not be covered.  Illegal operators usually don't tell their insurance agent that its a Limousine or a business vehicle used to carry passengers for hire.  Then they sign the insurance agreement that states they didn't make any fraudulent statements.   By not telling them it's a Limousine used to carry passengers for a fee their policies may become noll and void, leaving you in the event of an accident uninsured and left to go after the owner directly.  Before putting yourself at risk or your child in a limo for their prom ask and look for these important items as shown below... It makes a world of difference

Today's Limousine has been "Livery Insured" since established in 1991

*** SUV Limousines that seat over 14 passenger should have "BUS" under the plate # & DOT inspection sticker ***

All New York State license plates should have the word "LIVERY" imprinted below the plate # as shown above.  Make sure when you go looking at Limousines or when the Limousine pulls up they say this.  There is no way to get a regular plate if you have "for hire" insurance.  Insurance ID cards say "FH1" and For Hire Passenger Vehicle.. as shown above.  In the State Of New York all Livery insurance cards should look like this.
